Generalizable Procedural Rules for TOD & Urban Allocations

3D Modeling

I presented in Geodesign Summit 2019 with a project titled “Generalizable Procedural Rules for TOD & Urban Allocations”. The project aimed to use procedural rules in CityEngine to generate large scale urban models to reflect future urban forms in 3D based on population allocations. This CGA rule takes into consideration of the TOD incentives, which awards more FAR to the developments closer to a transit station with high frequency.

Animation below shows the building form generations with the CGA rule. In this rule file, the buildings were generated based on the floor area ratio (FAR) assigned to each lot. The assigned FAR is controlled by the population allocation, and the lot’s euclidean distance from the nearest frequent transit station with high frequency.
