Procedural Modeling in Active Transportation (Bus, Bike, Walk) for City Sustainable Development

3D Modeling

I presented a project titled “Procedural Modeling in Active Transportation (Bus, Bike, Walk) for City Sustainable Development” at the Geodesign Summit 2020. This project was a collaborative effort between myself and the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG).

As the largest Metropolitan Planning Organization in the nation, SCAG has been dedicated to increasing active transportation modes (bus, bike, and walk) in the six counties of its jurisdiction. SCAG conducted its long-range transportation plan, as depicted in the map below. The plan also includes ridership projections for each of the bus, bike, and walk trips for every census block group in the region.

I collaborated with SCAG to generate procedural CityEngine models for two block groups near downtown Los Angeles, which are under high gentrification pressure. These models were created based on household projections derived from travel demand models. The CityEngine models below depict the possible future urban forms of the area near the heart of LA, based on bus trips, bike trips, and walk trips projections, respectively.
